At the moment you begin to feel anxiety or panic do this:
1. Look down at your clothing
2. Select something you are wearing and touch it. Use your fingers or your entire hand.
3. Run your finger or your hand up and down the fabric while taking deep breaths and then an exhalation. Continue to do this for as long as you can.
4. This process engages your parasympathetic nervous system and produces a sense of calm and relaxation.
A client reported touching her blanket like this every morning before she got out of bed. She ran her entire hand on the soft blanket and then touched the satin top part until she felt relaxed. She would close her eyes, meditate for a few minutes and then return to massaging her blanket. Another techniques she used was to rub the satin part of the top of her blanket between two fingers………something that was easy to do with very quick results.
